Time to Talk to Jane

Fantastic night out last night in Edinburgh to see Jenny Kondol's/ Jennifer Hay performance 'Time to Talk to Jane' at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The performance was not only charged with intense emotion, but was, at times, psychologically disturbing, funny, challenging and called on the everyday situations that many of us find ourselves in, even if we don't have experience of an eating disorder. It made the audience not only re-think some of their pre-conceptions about eating disorders, but almost forced them to take a good look at how they see themselves too. Thrilling at times, emotional at others...

It made the audience not only re-think some of their pre-conceptions about eating disorders, but almost forced them to take a good look at how they see themselves too. Thrilling at times, emotional at others, this performance was truly a representation of the rollercoster ride that rampages through the mind of someone tormented by an eating disorder. A wonderful performance that definitely 'hit the nail on the head'. Not an easy watch at times, but that's the point: we often need something hard-hitting to realise the true impact that our demons have on us. Undoubtedly, the performance was like holding a mirror up to bulimia. With that, it was an especially powerful play that not only challenged the stigma and stereotypes forced upon the eating disorder sufferer by the general public; it, unquestionably, forced those...

Time to Talk to Jane Review (Alexandra O'Brien, No Bodies Perfect)
The show was a raw and exposing performance - the narrative really exemplified the struggle and torment of experiencing and suffering from an eating disorder. I thought you poignantly portrayed how oppressive an illness it can be, the manic, repetitive nature of behaviours and how these can spiral so quickly out of control - all in an effort to stay in control. It was powerful and painful to watch in equal measure - a wonderful piece to provide awareness and insight into the internal struggle and show how perceived physical manifestation is not indicative of the extent of the...

It was powerful and painful to watch in equal measure - a wonderful piece to provide awareness and insight into the internal struggle and show how perceived physical manifestation is not indicative of the extent of the torment and psychological distress experienced. The set, staging, props and mess created on the stage made me think of the mess and struggle of the eating disorder thoughts, and the transition from order to disordered mind. A huge congratulations for your show and being such a great advocate for awareness and recovery! Sara Preston 2014 B-eat Uk Young People’s Participation Officer [Scotland] Registered Charity no.
